Challenge has won the Nissan Global Supplier Award—Global Innovation Award
As a member of the Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) Group, Challenge has developed an ultra-lightweight carbon roof, and has won the 2020 Nissan Global Supplier Award—Global Innovation Award for this achievement. This award, sponsored by Nissan Motor Corporation, is presented to suppliers who have made a significant contribution to the company’s performance through innovative efforts that lead to an enhancement of its product appeal and brand power.
The award-winning ultra-lightweight carbon roof was adopted by 2020MY GT-R NISMO that was released in June 2019, and has since garnered high acclaim for its innovative technology and performance.
At the development stage of the vehicle, we gave a presentation that focused on the reduced weight of the component.
The 4kg weight reduction of the component and the high quality of its external appearance were made possible by arranging carbon and low specific gravity material in a sandwich structure according to the Prepreg Compression Molding (PCM) process to reduce weight to an even greater extent.
This sandwich structure was achieved for the first time through the PCM process, and received high acclaim that led to the award this year.
Challenge has manufactured and supplied carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) components to Nissan Motor since 2019 as a Tier 1 supplier. We aspire to go higher, however, and aim to see more of our products adopted by our clients, by establishing an integrated production system that includes everything from molding and coating to assembly, and thereby proposing high-quality components of high value to our customers.
